My areas of research interest lie broadly in the area of economic geography, with an emphasis on the relationships between states and financial globalization. On the one hand, I examine how traditional forms of territorial economic sovereignty have been undermined through deepening global financial market integration, particularly as mediated through networks of offshore financial centers. On the other, I examine the evolving strategies through which states have sought to transcend territorial limits to economic intervention, such as the deployment of sovereign wealth funds. I have a particular interest in the strategies through which states in the developing world have sought to adapt traditional industrial policy tools to the constraints and opportunities associated with financial globalization.
