Lecturer in Strategy and Defence, University of Exeter

As Lecturer in Strategy and Defence, Danny is tasked with helping to design and deliver the innovative Masters in Applied Security Strategy.

Danny joined the SSI at the University of Exeter in September 2012 having previously been a scholarship holder on the Leverhulme-sponsored Liberal Way of War Program at the University of Reading, directed by Professor Alan Cromartie. Under the supervision of Dr. Geoff R. Sloan and Professor Colin S. Gray he researched and codified the relationship between strategy and intelligence gathering, focusing specifically on what the British experience during the 1956 Suez Crisis could reveal about that relationship.

Danny’s research interests include the development and history of strategic theory, the conduct of intelligence operations and special operations with a particular interest in their intersections and relations, cyber warfare and its consequences on strategy and the strategic environment, the role of targeted killing and its broader implications, military history broadly, counter-terrorism, and the development of doctrine.
