David S. Fleming

Professor of Education and Department Chair, Clemson University

Dr. David S. Fleming, is a full-time professor in Clemson University’s College of Education, and he is a uniquely qualified voice who can speak to the value of after-school programming. Fleming currently serves as Principal Investigator for GoalPOST (Goal-Oriented Performance in Out of School Time), a partnership between Clemson University and several Upstate South Carolina school districts. The focus of that project is measuring how out-of-school-time education programs not only support goal-setting and the academic achievements of students, but also how such programs can help students foster a mastery learning environment. This is a method of enabling students to move forward at their own pace as they master knowledge, skills, and a belief in their ability to succeed. The project is funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Dr. Fleming's research has culminated in the primary or co-authorship of more than 120 articles and technical reports including many tied to out-of-school-time educational programming.
