Data protection and surveillance stream lead, Allens Hub for Technology, Law and Innovation, UNSW Law Faculty, UNSW Sydney

David is stream lead for Surveillance and Data Protection at the Allens Hub for Technology, Law and Innovation at UNSW Faculty of Law. Former executive director of Cyberspace Law and Policy Centre and co-convenor of the Cyberspace Law and Policy Community at the same faculty, where he teaches IT, digital and cyberspace law. Also teaches a new postgrad Data and Ethics course for School of Business. Key Researcher at Data to Decisions Cooperative Research Centre (D2DCRC) during its operations 2014-2019.

David has held board and committee roles at a number of organisations, including Australian Privacy Foundation, Internet Australia policy committee, AMSRO (now ADIA) Privacy Code Compliance Committee, NSW Law Society privacy and data committee and AUSTRAC privacy consultative committee, as well roles in community advocacy organisations and legal centres, and a health research ethics committee.
