Senior Lecturer in Transport and Tourism, Bournemouth University

Derek Robbins is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Management at Bournemouth University. He trained as a transport planner and has experience over many years teaching and researching in the small but growing area of how transport services can best be managed and developed to meet the needs of leisure and tourism. He has published widely on a number of topics including slow travel, tourism and climate change, sustainable transport strategies for leisure and tourism, transport services in National Parks, cycle tourism and the cruise ship industry and his work was included in the Universities submission to the last Research Assessment Exercise (REF).

Derek is currently Chair of the local branch of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport and sits on the transport advisory board for his Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP). He has also served a 5 year term as chair of the programme committee for Leisure and Transport at the European Transport Conference.
