As a sociologist, Dr. Dilek Cindoğlu studies the gendered nature of labor markets, politics, migration, health, and sexuality in Turkey, with broader global implications. She has published on virginity surgeries, political sex scandals, and labor market discrimination. Her current research, "Turkey’s Ethno Sexual Others: 'Scarlets' of the New Turkey," is comparative research on the migrant women from Syrian and post-Soviet countries to Turkey. She is a Fulbright Senior Scholar at Georgetown University's Institute for the Study of International Migration (ISIM), and the Gender Studies Coordinator for Graduate Studies at the Kadir Has University, Istanbul, Turkey. She received her Ph.D. (1991) from SUNY at Buffalo, and her BA and MA from Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey.
