Ekaterina Balabanova

My research explores the democratic functions of the media in the context of the rise of populism and nationalism. I am interested in exploring the cosmopolitan potential for communication amidst political tensions and compromises at the heart of the international human rights system. I study media coverage of migration issues, campaigns (on social or traditional media) by businesses, and international organisations around refugees and migrants, modern slavery, ethics and sustainability issues, and mental health.
