Emily Hopkins

I am a PhD researcher in urban and cultural geographies, based within the Department of Geography and the Centre for the GeoHumanities. My thesis aims to build upon previous critiques of the creative city by analysing the on-the-ground experiences of culture-led regeneration in a mid-sized UK city.

The research focuses on my home city, as it prepares to take the title of DCMS UK City of Culture 2021. By collecting data during the build-up to 2021, I hope to provide insight into a temporal period that is often overshadowed by the both year of celebration and the subsequent post-megaevent evaluation.
