My PhD research explores the relationship between social media and memory, specifically in the context of terror attacks. I focus on the digital commemorative practices which emerged during the Charlie Hebdo attack in 2015, the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017, and the Christchurch Mosque attack in 2019. Broadly speaking, I am particularly interested in the way(s) in which social media shapes the shared remembering of events through the circulation of viral content, the use of hashtags, and the immediacy of social media interactions.
