Educational technologist, Cape Peninsula University of Technology

Faiq Waghid (34 years) has been appointed as lecturer at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology as from 1 January 2018. He previously served as an Advisor in the Centre for Learning Technologies at Stellenbosch University since 1 July 2014. His primary activities involve the following: blended learning consultant, Advisor for the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences curriculum renewal interventions, massive open online course pilot coordination, streaming project liaison between SU and Google, and telematics technical advisor. He was previously employed by the Western Cape Education Department for the past 6.6 years (2008-2014). He was a Life Sciences educator for the senior grades and holds the following qualifications from Stellenbosch University: BSc (Biological and Life Sciences), PGCE, BEd Honours (Educational Leadership and Management), MEd (Curriculum, Science and Technology Education) and PhD (Curriculum Studies in Science and Technology Education). He has a good theoretical understanding of inclusive education with experience as to how to use educational technology to democratise classrooms at both GET and FET levels. He has proven experience in managing, administering and leading teacher education initiatives in relation to the integration of ICTs in the curriculum with the aim to improve teaching and learning. Deliberation and recognition of the vulnerable other are important practices advocated by him in the quest to initiate educators and learners in critical pedagogical activities through educational technology. For his innovative use of educational technology, he has been awarded the Khanya teaching award in 2008. He also served as online tutor for UNISA in initiating first-year education students into the discourse of ICTs and classroom practice. He has presented three international academic papers at major conferences and has published six academic articles in accredited education journals. He is passionate about the use of educational / information technology to enhance critical teaching and learning in school and university classrooms and is familiar with the latest developments in computerized technology education.
