Lecturer of Ethnomusicology and Music Management, University of Sheffield

I organise, make and think about music. My PhD thesis ‘English Folk Singing and the Construction of Community’ was completed in 2010 and I started teaching at the University of Sheffield in 2011. I teach modules for the MA in Ethnomusicology, Distance Learning MAs in World Music Studies and Traditional Music of the British Isles and the MA in Music Management. I have PhD students looking at fiddlers' manuscripts and how musicians compose within tradition, and also teach on the Undergraduate programme.

I record and tour with various bands including The Hurricane Party and The Full English and am working on an AHRC funded project exploring how artists and audiences respond to fairytales.
