Fola Babalola, PhD

Lecturer and Researcher, University of Ilorin

Fola Babalola holds PhD (Forest Economics) obtained from University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He is currently a Senior Lecturer and Researcher in the Department of Forest Resources Management, University of Ilorin, Nigeria. His field of specialization is Forest Socio-Economics with research focus on interdependence of forest, people and livelihoods.

Dr Babalola is a Senior Consultant to Food and Agriculture of United Nation (FAO) on Small Scale Forest Enterprises in Africa. He was awarded Vice Chancellor Postdoctoral Fellow and currently and a Visiting Lecturer at University of Pretoria, South Africa. He has supervised a number of MSc and PhD students aside more than 40 undergraduate students. He has published a book, and more than 100 research articles in journals and conference proceedings. He has received various scholarships, fellowships and research grants.

With passion to apply his research and experience in solving environmental challenges, Dr Babalola started a non-governmental organization, known as Save Sahara Network (www.savesaharanetwork.org). The NGO focuses on saving of nature and empowering of people at grassroots.
