Gert's research interests include applied micro-economics, law & economics, competition policy, economics of regulation. He is currently working on developments in network regulation and investment, pros and cons of (ownership) unbundling, and smart grids: "Smart regulation for smart grids!"
Gert obtained his PhD in economics at University of Freiburg. His thesis was entitled, "Coordination and Competition in the Electricity Pool of England and Wales". He subsequently taught at Freiburg for a number of years. He started at Jacobs University Bremen in 2006.
