Herkulaas MvE Combrink

Seconded to assist in the COVID pandemic, providing senior strategic data science support as well as a nominated BRICS young Scientist for 2020, as part of the BRICS young science research forum in Russia (2020). I engage in research studies/projects that integrate Data Science to improve the quality of education, healthcare, and society. This forms part of the Data Science for Social Impact research group led by Dr Vukosi Marivate at the University of Pretoria. Within this work, we encourage the engagement on local challenges as a catalyst for innovative solutions across all fields in education and healthcare. In addition to this, I am a lecturer in data analytics, specifically focusing on the fundamentals of applied business analytics and analytics for decision making. This includes the creation of indices, understanding complex societal and social problems through the use of data and complex data analysis processes.

I am attached to the Office of the Dean at the University of the Free State. I am also Interim Co Director - Interdisciplinary Centre for Digital Futures.
