My principal research programme stems from a doctoral case based project on the implementation of high performance work systems in the retail sector. Contributions are being developed on the interaction of union partnership processes with HRM systems, the links between external economic fluctuations and intensification of work, and the dynamics of front line manager implementation of HR practices. I work on ongoing collaborative multi-method projects investigating the outcomes of union led learning for union resilience and for member and employee benefits. I am co-investigator on multi-method research into the outcomes of collective bargaining in the north of England through the TUC. Finally, I am co-investigating the determinants of job satisfaction across different occupational groups.
