I entered Florida International University's (FIU) Ph. D program in Global and Sociocultural Studies (GSS) without a Masters which is why the two Bachelors I received at the University of Wyoming are listed here. I am finishing my fifth year at FIU and am in the writing stage of my dissertation. I was accepted to FIU's GSS Ph. D program without a Masters because of an ethnographic field school I participated in during my undergraduate studies where I conducted my own research project which partially focused on the smuggling of Cuban migrants through an island in the Yucatán Peninsula called Isla Mujeres. My time at FIU has been spent conducting pre-dissertation research with Venezuelan asylum seekers in Miami, dissertation research with undocumented immigrants and immigrants with humanitarian statuses from Venezuela and Honduras in Miami, working with FIU to set up an immigration research center at the University, and volunteering with various community organizations in the area.
