Professor of Geography, Ghent University

Jan Nyssen is a geographer who carried out research in Tigray since 1994. He was professor at Ghent University's Department of Geography from 2007 to 2022, when he retired. He continues teaching courses on Geomorphology and Hydrology. His research (mainly in Ethiopia) aims to contribute to the identification and quantification of changes in the coupled system "humans-environment" - with focus on slope processes, hydrogeomorphology, land degradation and resilience.
