Academic Program Director, Experiential Learning, The University of Melbourne

Dr Jason Brown is an academic specialising in researching, teaching, and in designing and delivering impactful and scalable academic and co-curricular programs to support the development of student employability.

Jason has over 20 years’ experience as a career development practitioner and leader in higher education, employment services, and corporate career services. With a PhD in higher education and organisational psychology he is an emerging expert globally on graduate employability. His published research, using both quantitative and qualitative research methods, is focused on the psychosocial factors that contribute to the development of employability. As an academic, Jason leads the design and delivery of experiential learning activities in the curriculum and co-curriculum spaces. He has designed, coordinated, and taught several career development and work integrated learning subjects.

As a practitioner, Jason played a leading role in the development of career development programs and services at Career Ahead, a highlight being the design and launch of an online career coaching platform, CareerAbility.com. At La Trobe University, Jason designed and delivered career education and job search programs, developed a large collection of labour market information resources, and led the implementation of a high-impact employability award program, Career Ready Advantage, which was accessed by over 14,000 students.

Jason has been recognised with several awards in recognition of his leadership and contribution to student learning. Highlights include a Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning (Australian Awards for University Teaching, 2022), the CDAA Excellence in Leadership Award (Career Development Association of Australia, 2018) and Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Contribution to Student Employability (La Trobe University, 2017).
