Jason Michael Lukasik

Asst. Professor and Director of the Master of Arts in Education program, Augsburg University

Dr. Lukasik earned his PhD in Curriculum Studies from the University of Illinois at Chicago. His dissertation analyzed the hidden colonial curriculum of zoos through the medium of a fictional novel. His research interests include out of school learning, education for human and ecological justice, zoo/museum education, and qualitative research methods. In particular, Jason is interested in looking at the underpinnings and assumptions of knowledge as they relate to actions in and out of the classroom.

Jason formerly worked in the Education Department of the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago where he taught high school students in a program that looked at issues of environmental conservation with an eco-justice focus. Jason has extensive experience as an advocate for students in Chicago Public Schools, having run a hotline for students with disabilities and students facing expulsion.
