Lecturer in Journalism, Southern Cross University

I am Lecturer in Journalism in the School of Arts and Social Sciences at Southern Cross University. My research focuses on journalism practice as a profession and on journalism curriculum design, particularly on authenticity and experiential learning. I have come to academia with a broad and lengthy professional practice as a journalist in radio, print and online media. I continued this practice as the arts critic for ABC Radio North Coast and have broadcast and/or published over 200 reviews between 2011 and 2017. My research publications are listed on my personal research page. I am involved in an interdisciplinary practice-based research which draws in my radio documentary background with place-making and audio design practices, and which is related to my PhD research on immersive audio walks. In 2016, I produced two locative audio walks in the Northern Rivers on the Soundtrails platform, one at Southern Cross University with my radio and podcast students, and the other for the village of Nimbin on the Aquarius Festival legacy.
