Chair in Social and Political Philosophy of Language, University of Waterloo

I'm a British and American philosopher of language, working at the University of Waterloo in Canada. I study deceptive and manipulative communication. I've just published Dogwhistles and Figleaves (2024) with Oxford University Press, which examines the role of language in the spread of racism and wildly implausible conspiracy theories. I also write about sexist language, as well as lying, misleading and bullshit.
