Urologist, Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Surgery, Monash University

Dr Jeremy Grummet is a urological surgeon with specific training and expertise in urological cancers. He performs MRI-targeted transperineal biopsy for maximal accuracy and minimal morbidity in prostate cancer diagnosis.

Dr Grummet also performs both robotic and open radical prostatectomy for the treatment of prostate cancer and is trained in brachytherapy (radioactive seed implantation). He routinely performs laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery for kidney cancer.

In addition to his expertise in uro-oncology, Dr Grummet also treats a wide range of general urological problems, performing surgery for kidney stones (using laser ablation), benign prostate disease, post-prostatectomy incontinence and erectile dysfunction and vasectomy.

Dr Grummet completed his formal training in urology obtaining his FRACS in 2007. The following year he completed a Clinical Uro-Oncology Fellowship under the supervision of Dr Martin Gleave at the Prostate Centre in Vancouver, Canada. During his Fellowship year Dr Grummet helped establish the robotic prostatectomy program at Vancouver General Hospital and completed a Robotic Surgery Mini-Residency at the University of California Irvine.

Dr Grummet has presented widely at multiple national and international conferences on the benefits of surgery for high risk localized prostate cancer, and is a strong advocate for active surveillance for low risk prostate cancer to minimise unnecessary treatment. He is an investigator on the PRIAS study, the largest worldwide study assessing outcomes for patients on active surveillance.
