Jeremy M. Bergen

Jeremy M. Bergen teaches and writes in the area of contemporary Christian theology. His research interests include church apologies for historical wrongs, martyrdom, ecclesiology, ecumenism, and contemporary Mennonite theology. In his book Ecclesial Repentance: The Churches Confront Their Sinful Pasts (T&T Clark, 2011) he analyzed over 100 instances of churches apologizing for historical wrongs and proposed a theological framework for understanding this relatively new practice. His current research project is a critical examination of the claim that Christian martyrdom advances the unity of otherwise divided churches.

Jeremy has been on faculty at Conrad Grebel University College, University of Waterloo, since 2008. He has served as director/chair of the Theological Studies program, editor of the Conrad Grebel Review, and president of the Canadian Theological Society (2016-2017).
