Joanne Bentley is a molecular ecologist whose current work at the African Climate and Development Initiative at the University of Cape Town (UCT) in South Africa involves evaluating the potential for genetic adaptation to rescue species from climate change, using this to develop a conservation tool for identifying when and where species are exposed to higher risk of maladaptation this century.

She obtained her PhD in molecular biology from UCT.
