Senior Research - Wildlife Ecology, Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research

I have been a practising researcher for 40 years, with substantial effort in mammal pest (especially rodent) ecology and management, wildlife (especially bird) conservation and progressing the science of ecosanctuaries. I worked with recovery of North Island kokako for 30+ years and am currently on DOC's kakapo and takahe recovery groups. I have also had bursts of work with kaki, black-billed gulls, kiwi, magpies, pateke and tui. I am interested most in factors that limit forest bird abundance on the New Zealand mainland, especially the relative roles of mammalian predation, food supply, forest area and connectivity between fragments.
