John's research focuses on the climate effects of meat and dairy production. He is interested in the greenhouse gas emissions associated with different livestock systems, and how these may develop based on demand for animal products, different agricultural practices, and emerging technologies.

His research also examines the metrics we currently use to describe emissions, and how these can be improved to model the true climate impact of livestock farming and aid decision making.
