Distinguished Professor of English, Utah State University

Dr. Joyce Kinkead is Distinguished Professor of English at Utah State University. In 2012, she was named a Fellow of the Council on Undergraduate Research, an award that recognizes her national reputation for promoting undergraduate research, the first and only humanist to be so honored. The U.S. Professors of the Year Program named her the Carnegie Professor for the State of Utah in 2013. USU designated her the 2018 D. Wynne Thorne Career Researcher, the highest honor awarded to a faculty researcher. The University Faculty Service Award was bestowed on her in 2021.

As Associate Vice President for Research overseeing undergraduate research, she instituted a number of programs: University Undergraduate Research Fellows; the Utah Conference on Undergraduate Research; and Research on Capitol Hill. In the role of Vice Provost, she oversaw undergraduate education as well as enrollment management. Previously, she directed writing programs and writing centers and created the Writing Fellows Program and the Undergraduate Teaching Fellows Program. Dr. Kinkead is scholar of Writing Studies and undergraduate research, an advocate for hands-on learning and meaningful, authentic assignments.
