My research program focuses on the evolutionary ecology of fishes with particular emphasis on the anadromous (e.g. salmon) and catadromous (e.g. eels) fishes that migrate between the ocean and freshwaters. Such research includes studies of population genetic structure, reproductive biology, the ecology of early life-history stages, migration patterns and mechanisms of orientation. Understanding the spatial and temporal dimensions of the life-history of species and populations is essential to assure the conservation of vital aquatic resources.
