Kate Cotter

(she/her)
Programme Leader & Broadcast Lecturer, School of Business & Creative Industries, University of the West of Scotland

I have worked in broadcast television production for over fifteen years, in London, Dublin, Berlin and Glasgow. As a freelance producer/director I have made over one hundred hours of television. This has included documentary, comedy, ob-docs, reality tv, factual entertainment, drama-documentary, talk shows, features and children’s television.

Highlights include producing a one hour documentary about Gerald Durrell for BBC4 and producing a series of Animal Park for BBC Two. As a practitioner, I have produced and directed, scripted, filmed and researched programmes for primetime BBC, Channel Four, Five, Sky One, STV and Discovery.

Prior to my television career, I worked in script editing and in script development for feature films with ICM Partners who are a talent and literary agency with offices in Los Angeles, New York City, Washington D.C. and London.

I joined the lecturing staff of the School of Creative and Cultural Industries at UWS in 2021. As a lecturer in Broadcast Production at the University of the West of Scotland, I have recently developed video content for Cop26 and the BBC 5050 equality campaign.

My research at the University continues to explore both the form of observational documentary and its modes of exhibition through practice-based research both as a producer and director. My other areas of special interest are representation in the media and Irish and Scottish arts and culture and broadcast production.
