Dr. Kathryn Libal is the Director of the Human Rights Institute and Associate Professor of Social Work and Human Rights. Her scholarship has focused on human rights in the Middle East and United States. She has co-authored or co-edited five books and published numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on human rights, social work, and the rights of refugees and asylum seekers, including Refugees and Asylum Seekers: Interdisciplinary and Comparative Perspectives (co-edited with S. Megan Berthold, Praeger). Libal is co-editor, with Molly Land and Jillian Chambers, of Beyond Borders: The Human Rights of Non-Citizens (Cambridge). Her current scholarship examines the politics and practices of voluntarism and social activism to support the rights of refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants in the United States.
