Katrien Devolder is a Marie Curie Fellow at the Uehiro Centre and a Research Fellow at Wolfson College. She obtained a PhD in Philosophy at Ghent University in 2006, after which she was awarded a six-year Postdoctoral Research Fellowship by the Research Foundation Flanders. Between 2012 and 2015 she worked as an Assistant Professor at Ghent University. Her work lies in applied ethics, especially biomedical ethics. She has published two books: Copyright. Een Bio-ethisch Essay, Leuven University Press 2001 (on the ethics of human cloning – in Dutch) and The Ethics of Embryonic Stem Cell Research, Oxford University Press 2015. She has also published on ethical issues pertaining to the treatment of sex offenders, genetic selection, life extension, compromising in bioethical debate, euthanasia at prisoners’ requests, and to complicity in past unethical medical research. Her most recent project investigates problems of moral complicity of medical professionals in others’ wrongdoing (e.g. possible complicity of doctors in torture or in discriminatory practices).
