Associate Professor of Medicine and of Pediatrics, UMass Chan Medical School

I am an Adult and Pediatric Infectious Disease physician and Associate Professor of Medicine and of Pediatrics at UMass Chan Medical School. Throughout my career as a physician-scientist spanning more than 20 years, I have combined all-age patient care and translational research. As a clinician, I serve a wide variety of patient populations, including immunocompromised hosts, pregnant women, and children. My research focuses on the immunopathogenesis of CMV and other herpesviruses in populations at risk for severe disease. I am currently leading the CMV TransmIT Study to better understand CMV spread and immune control. I have presented at conferences around the world on advances in diagnosis and management of congenital CMV infection and how the fetal/neonatal T cells may fight the virus. This work led me to create the Massachusetts Congenital CMV Coalition, a non-profit advocacy organization of professional and community stakeholders, including parents of children with congenital CMV infection.
