Lauren Breen

Lauren Breen is a Professor in the School of Population Health at Curtin University in Australia. Her award-winning, applied research centers on end-of-life care and grief and loss. Most notably, she was successful in the inaugural round of the prestigious Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Research Awards for her project exploring family caregiving and bereavement. She has authored about 170 book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles. She is a Fellow in Thanatology: Death, Dying and Bereavement; a member of the International Work Group on Death, Dying and Bereavement; and Managing Editor of Death Studies. In 2022, she delivered a TEDx talk “Six myths about grief to bust for yourself, and your loved ones”. Her research informs initiatives in Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, Canada, the USA, and throughout Europe, including being the foundation of the European Grief Model, the Danish National Center for Grief in partnership with the Bereavement Network Europe, and the Irish Hospice Foundation.
