I am associate professor of history at Miami University, where I teach classes on early US history and the history of capitalism, and author of Flowers, Guns, and Money: Joel Roberts Poinsett and the Paradoxes of American Patriotism (University of Chicago Press, 2023) and Manufacturing Advantage: War, the State, and the Origins of American Industry, 1776–1848 (JHUP, 2019).
