Associate Professor in Marine Ecology, University of Plymouth

I am a marine ecologist who works in both natural and artificial coastal environments. I am interested in the relationship between humans and coastal ecosystems (#Marine Community Ecology) and how this relationship has changed over time (#Historical Ecology). I am particularly interested in developing novel ways of making space for nature in human-dominated environments (#Eco-Engineering). See my TEDx talk for more information on Eco-engineering https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UY_uPfNsUGM.

Since completing my PhD at University College Dublin, Ireland in 2007, I have had various research positions in Hong Kong; Tampa, Florida; Bangor, North Wales; Galway, Ireland; Southampton, UK before finally and happily settling in Plymouth in beautiful southwest Britain.

I am currently a lecturer at the University of Plymouth. I teach on courses related to marine ecology, human impacts and conservation.
