Matt Weaver

I'm a first-year PhD student at the University of Portsmouth, researching representations of gay men and HIV/AIDS in film and television, looking at visual media released during the AIDS crisis and more contemporary approaches, such as Pose (2018-2021) and It's a Sin (2021). I've also written a number of academic essays and blog posts/articles surrounding sexuality on screen, including transgender representation in American film and television, and more recently, Disney's representation of LGBTQ+ themes in the wake of the 'Don't Say Gay' bill.
