Michael Downing is the author of nine books. His novels include the national bestseller, Perfect Agreement, named one of the 10 Best Books of the year by Amazon.com and Newsday, and Breakfast with Scot, an American Library Association honor book adapted as a movie that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Michael's nonfiction includes Shoes Outside the Door: Desire, Devotion, and Excess at San Francisco Zen Center, and his influential history of clocks, Congress, and confusion, Spring Forward: The Annual Madness of Daylight Saving Time. A frequent commentator on NPR and national network and cable television news programs, his essays have appeared in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and the Washington Post.
