After a career in journalism that included three Pulitzer Prize nominations, I turned to research and consulting. Following the publication of a landmark book in 1997, "Demanding Medical Excellence: Doctors and Accountability in the Information Age" (University of Chicago Press), I have written extensively in the lay and peer-reviewed literature about quality of care, patient safety and patient-centered care, as well as serving and a peer reviewer and on journal boards.
