Dr Mikel Mellick comes from Brisbane, Australia and started in the school in 1997. Since that time he has occupied a variety of fractional posts working primarily on the school's provision of post graduate sport psychology programmes. He was instrumental in the development of these, writing and continuing as a sole deliverer on two core modules. Mikel specialises in Counselling Psychology & Therapeutic approaches in Sport Psychology Practice and Athlete Mental Wellbeing and Developmental Perspectives.
Mikel balances his academic commitments while maintaining a private practice as a Registered Practitioner Psychologist (HCPC) working primarily in Athlete Mental Health & Major Life Event support. He has a background in nursing, behavioural science, counselling psychology and sport psychology. He is a full and founder member of The Division of Sport & Exercise Psychology (BPS) and is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychologists' Society. He is also registered supervisor for the BPS Stage 2 Training in Sport Psychology practice.
Mikel leads on Mental Health and Wellbeing for the school and is a Mental Health First Aid Instructor and is trained in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills. In 2015 Mikel was awarded with a University Student-Led Teaching Fellowship in recognition of Teaching Excellence.
