Miriam Driessen is an anthropologist, and the author of Tales of Hope, Tastes of Bitterness: Chinese Road Builders in Ethiopia.
She has conducted extensive field research in Ethiopia and China, with a focus on migration and development. Her essay The Restless Earth: Rural China in Transition was the runner-up of the 2018 Bodley Head/Financial Times Essay Prize.
Currently she is a Post-Doctoral Research Associate within the China, Law and Development project, hosted by the University of Oxford.
