Currently thorough the medium of her PhD research at the urban-​rural system module in Future Cities Laboratory, she focuses on the Greater Jakarta region, West Java and other region in the eastern Indonesia.

Miya holds M.Sc. degree in Construction and Real Estate Management from a joint study program of HTW Berlin and Helsinki Metropolia and B.Arch degree from Trisakti University in Jakarta. She has practiced architecture and urban design in Indonesia. She is also a green building practitioner and has in the past engaged with several architect consultants in Jakarta and Bandung for green building design and simulation. With an interest focused on urban development and housing provision in the developing world, local economic development, and community empowerment, Miya has conducted various research projects ranging from policies to pilot initiatives in Indonesia. 

Prior to joining Future Cities Laboratory - ETH Zurich, she was a lecturer at Tarumanagara University, Jakarta conducting courses in the Undergraduate and Graduate Programs on Real Estate and Urban Development. She held the post of managing director and researcher at the Urban Laboratory-​Tarumanagara University. She was involved with various joint research programs with international partners, these related to urban transformation, sustainable urban development, and real estate development. She was a principle researcher at Research Center of Socio-​economic and Community Empowerment at the Ministry of Public Works in Indonesia. Her research related to urban land consolidation, community empowerment, slum upgrading urban housing and local economic development. 

Between 2009-​2015 she helped the Indonesia government and municipalities drafting public policy papers through development research focused the areas of housing and settlement, slum upgradation and spatial planning in Indonesia. Following the outputs of this research, she was engaged as a consultant with the World Bank and UN Habitat on urban land and housing provision policy then later had collaborations with UNESCO on research related to urban heritage area of Jakarta and urban water management.
