Mutono is a data scientist combining applied epidemiological modelling and data analytics in developing prevention and control strategies for infectious diseases in Africa. She is a post-doctoral research fellow at the Centre for Epidemiological Modelling and Analysis (CEMA) at the University of Nairobi. Her research at CEMA is on control and elimination of neglected tropical diseases. Previously, she has researched on understanding the transmission dynamics and control of SARS-CoV-2 and rabies in Kenya, employing mathematical modelling techniques. She holds an Msc in Data Analytics from the University of Glasgow, a Msc in Environment Governance from the University of Nairobi, and did her PhD thesis on the nexus between piped water distribution and waterborne diseases in Nairobi, a rapidly urbanising city
