Nancy Schellhorn

Team Leader, Spatial Ecology, CSIRO

Dr Nancy Schellhorn leads the Spatial Ecology team at CSIRO and is researching ecosystem services through the study of beneficial and pest invertebrates within native habitats and managed environments.

She and her collaborators have developed and advanced the concept of Pest Suppressive Landscapes (PSL) after establishing a good understanding of how native vegetation can help with pest management in agricultural landscape.

In addition, Dr Schellhorn has translated the principles of PSL into the urban environment to influence the development of the CSIRO Vector Ecology & Human Health Initiative.

With her colleagues in CSIRO ICT, Dr Schellhorn has led the development of an insect monitoring invention to better understand insect movement, one of the most poorly understood, yet fundamentally important biological processes.
