Nicholas A.Ioannides

PhD candidate in Public International Law, University of Bristol

Nikolaos holds a Law degree from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2010) and an LLM in International Law (2012) from the University of Bristol. He was called to the Bar in Cyprus in 2011. He commenced his doctoral research in January 2013.

His project focuses on the extent to which the Law of the Sea rules, conventional and customary, are being applied in the Eastern Mediterranean. As the region has a long-standing naval tradition and the sea domain has always been the epicentre of flourishing civilisations, it is argued that the Law of the Sea apparatus can play a major part in the resolution of maritime disputes as well as in the promotion of interstate cooperation in the area under concern.

His other fields of interest include the law of armed conflict, international humanitarian law, constitutional law, and jurisprudence.
