PhD Researcher - Safeguarding Young People, University of East London

Nicholas has extensive experience both as front line social worker and as a service manager in various multi-agency, child-safeguarding settings. His previous roles have included working as the Safeguard Lead for Greater Manchester Police’s award-winning multi-agency response to organised crime and modern slavery, Programme Challenger. More recently Nicholas was the development lead for a research based and co-designed child sexual exploitation (CSE) service, piloted in two Greater Manchester authorities. This service received a positive independent evaluation and is now being rolled out across the region as part of Greater Manchester’s response to complex safeguarding.

Currently Nicholas divides his time between working at the Centre for expertise on child sexual abuse and undertaking PhD studies, researching safeguarding adolescents from extra-familial harm (CCE/CSE/Gangs) from a system’s perspective.
