Professor of Chemistry, University of Bristol

I'm a professor of chemistry at Bristol where I've been for the last 25 years and I completed a six-year term as Head of Department a couple of years ago. I was also, for two years, chair of the national body, Heads of Chemistry UK. My main area of research is inorganic chemistry, in particular the field of low-oxidation state boron chemistry.

Since finishing as Head of Department, I have gone part time (I'll retire in a couple of years) which has given me an opportunity to continue with what I enjoy as a Bristol chemist but also have time for other activities, one of which is writing. I've recently completed an Oxford University Press Chemistry Primer and as well as articles on educational matters and have also written some of a more general nature.
