Associate Professor of Political Science, University of Waikato

I specialise in political communication, with a particular focus on two broader questions. How do societies collectively remember their past through media? How do visual images shape our understanding of the political world?

My research has been funded through several competitive grants, including from the UK's Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), the British Academy, and the Academy of Korean Studies. In 2016, I was appointed a POSCO Fellow of the East-West Center, Honolulu.

I also maintain my own photography practice (ollihellmann.net).
