Associate Professor and Deputy Director, Western Australian Centre for Road Safety Research, The University of Western Australia

Associate Professor Paul Roberts is the Deputy Director of the Western Australian Centre for Road Safety Research which is located in the School of Psychological Science. He has over 25 years’ experience as an academic and more than 15 years’ experience in road safety.

Paul has a PhD in experimental psychology from UWA and has conducted fundamental work on implicit learning, false memory, the representation of implicit knowledge and individual differences in false memory susceptibility. In the road safety space his particular interests are driver fatigue, distraction and error. He advises various organisations, including resources companies on fatigue management, in Australia and overseas. He is the joint organiser (with Professor Lynn Meuleners) of the International Conference on Fatigue Management in Transport. Paul is recognised as a national expert on distraction from digital billboards and he has conducted many research and consulting projects on the safety impact of digital billboards.
