Associate Professor, Epidemiology and Public Health, University of Nairobi

Philip Kitala is a Kenya Veterinarian with a PhD (1999) in veterinary public health from the University of Guelph, Ontario. During his PhD studies, he studied quantitative methods in epidemiology and statistics, which he later became an expert in this field. After he completed his master’s in Veterinary public health at the University of Nairobi (Kenya), Kitala was appointed to be a lecturer at the same University in the Department of Public Health, Pharmacology and Toxicology in 1987. He has since been promoted to a Senior lecturer (2000) and an Associate Professor in 2012.
Other than teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Epidemiology and Public Health at University of Nairobi, Kitala has also been involved in the supervision of postgraduate students. He is also active in research activities and has published 18 articles in peer-reviewed journals and 10 other articles presented in conference/workshops both within Kenya and outside. In addition, he also does consultancies for both local and international organizations in his area of specialization.
