Philippa Velija is Head of Education and Sociology and Associate Professor in the Sociology of Sport at Solent University, Southampton. She is author of Women’s Cricket and Global Processes which explores the established-outsider figuration in women’s cricket and the development and emergence of the global game in relation to broader changes in gender relations and recently co-edited Figurational Research in Sport, Leisure and Health. Her research has been published in theSociology of Sport Journal, International Review for Sociology of Sport and Leisure Studies has focused on a sociological analysis of women’s experiences of flat and jump jockeys and women in the martial arts as well as co-authored papers on gender and sport policy and women and leadership in sport governance.
